The gardens consist of two glasshouses, the Cool House and the Tropical House. Both gardens hold ever-changing display of rare and beautiful plants with origins from all around the world in spectacular arrangement. The glasshouses are connected by a courtyard with a sunken pond in the centre and neoclassical marble statues, which were added in the 1920s and 1930s, spread around the complex. A quarry to the side of the courtyard holds a fernery reflective of New Zealand.
The Winter gardens are a quiet, charming space hidden away from the rest of the domain, reminiscent of The Secret Garden. With indoor as well as outdoor gardens, the gardens are a lovely place to spend a quiet afternoon at one with the nature at all seasons.
